“P” to the power of five

The Patent-Pending Parsimonious Production Process ( The 5P’s ) explained.

Once upon a time, a group of like minded individuals came together and formed Parsimonious Luxuries. Their stated goal: to banish unnecessary complexity from the production cycle. Then they decided the term “Parsimonious Luxuries” was, in and of itself, not very parsimonious. Thus, PARSILUX was born.

Hopefully by now you’ve heard of our 5p system we use in all of our productions. If not you have probably heard of 3G. They are nothing alike.

Starting with development and all the way through distribution our 5p method ensures high-quality results for your project. Consider our test case Ted. Ted has sold Widgets for a long time, having grown weary of corporate politics he now wants to sell Widgets for himself, and stick it to the man.

During development, we will work with you to identify opportunities for saving both time and money. Many problems that affect productions negatively can be prevented by shedding any unnecessary complexity during the planning phase. That is, by careful planning and preparation, things will naturally become less complicated.

Remember, Ted needed the whole package: training video, audio books and a website. During his 15 years in corporate Widget sales, Ted had accumulated a rather sizable collection of intellectual assets needed for his new business: logos sketched out during meetings, order forms eerily similar to his former employers, and even an entire HR manual.

During pre-production and production, we continue to seek out areas from which we can uproot complexity. Ted had vast amounts of knowledge, goods and ideas of what to do with them. Unfortunately, Ted wanted to use all of it. When we consulted with Ted, we all agreed it would be mutually beneficial if we put everything on the table and beat it real good with the 5p stick. This resulted in reducing 15 years worth of what were essentially daydreams into a triple-threat media powerhouse.

Post-production is when the magic happens. By drawing on assets from the others, all three departments are able to produce a uniform and consistent product that builds and enhances your brand. Ted’s brilliance really began to shine during post: his audio book series, The Three Hundred Most Pivotal Widget Innovations Ever, was able to provide our video department with voice-overs for the training videos. The web department constructed digital assets that had been made from Ted’s napkin drawings and (allegedly) pilfered office documents.

The result? Each department needing only to focus on it’s particular field, while benifiting from the expertise of the others. This brought Ted’s Widget empire under a single umbrella of uniformity and consistency, all the while protecting him from the deluge of like-minded Widget marketeers, in record time.

Distribution is the most important aspect of any production. Much time and expense has been put forth up to this point, It would be a shame to waste it. We will work with you to ensure all methods of distribution are readily available to you if you so choose. Ted, being the forward-looking individual he his, chose to center his productions on the Internet. He hosted his training videos on his website, so his sales force could watch them from anywhere in the world. He also decided to sell his audio book and the eBook on a sub-domain of his site. This provided him with a single portal to all things Widget-y.

There you have it: the 5p system demystified for you. Ted’s case highlights a number of areas in which the 5p method not only reduced complexity but also enhanced all areas of Ted’s productions. We’re happy to report that Ted is now the fourth largest Widget distributor in Ottumwa, Iowa and has plans to move his global headquarters to Cedar Rapids.
